My Blogging Adventure Begins...
This blogging thing is completely new to me— so I’m excited to learn and practice it, yet I am also nervous about entering another wave of communication. I do understand the value of what a blog can do, especially in education settings, but I also fear what it is capable of. Since blogging is a “web log”, I see the potential use of blogging as a journal or for communication purposes. However, I am also weary of how invasive blogs may be in personal lives. When many people can view the information that is posted, I believe that could become a safety and privacy issue. I think that there is no better form of communication than face to face interaction, and that social interaction is lost in many of the new technologies. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy Facebooking, emailing, and texting, but I also wonder now how my parents’ generation did it—when they actually had to pick up a phone and call each other to communicate.
Despite my reservations about blogging, I feel that it could be an effective tool to use for daily updates, sharing ideas through discussion, posting assignments, asking questions, and providing information to others. Technology has become so advanced that the majority of families have a computer today, and a blog may be a good place for educators and students to communicate if it is done appropriately.
I am looking forward to giving blogging a chance, and see how I may incorporate it into my teaching if it is beneficial.
Introduction: Kevan Bryant
Hi, I'm Kevan! I want to share a bit of who I am with you. I enjoy yoga, volleyball, running, biking, and working out. I did my first half-marathon and triathlon this year, and plan on doing more this next year! I love traveling. I have been to places including Japan, Greece, Italy, Spain, Ireland, the UK, and Mexico. I hope one day to teach abroad and help implement educational programs in developing countries. My family is awesome, and I like hanging out with my Mom, Dad, brother, boyfriend, and 'puppy' Maki (he's young at heart). Having parents as teachers made me appreciate the profession from a young age and aspire to be like them and the great teachers I had. A few of my goals for this year are to learn Spanish, travel to Mexico, achieve my yoga teacher certification, and run a full marathon. Some other things I enjoy are chocolate, country music, the colour blue, going to my cabin, art (I'm an art major), and summer. I'm excited to see what this year will hold with new experiences and beginnings.
